MySentinel

The team

MySentinel started in 2017, when Gabriel Ballesteros and Lance Hastie built a low-power, long-range IoT remote control for a camera system on an Australian project. A Canterbury poultry farm asked for a backup alarm system; four demonstration units answered. Operational since 2020, the same platform now watches farms, coolstores and server rooms across New Zealand — and the two engineers who built it still run it.

Lance

Lance Hastie

Director — telecommunications engineer. Lance runs the New Zealand operation end to end: deployment, customer relationships, and the alarm service itself. When a MySentinel alarm rings at 2am, Lance is typically the first call — vetting it with farming experience before it ever wakes a grower. He works directly with growers, processors and welfare agencies on what the platform should do next.
Gabriel

Gabriel Ballesteros

Director — electrical engineer with deep IoT and RF experience (Cat-M1, LoRaWAN), a Masters in Web Technologies and a Diploma of Project Management. Gabriel designs and builds the hardware, firmware and cloud architecture from Australia — making MySentinel a genuinely trans-Tasman engineering operation.

Two engineers. Sixty-five-plus units. Six years of answered alarms.
